Charitable and not-for-profit organizations form a substantial and growing share of the Canadian economy. They play an essential role in communities across Canada, providing expertise and support to every aspect of our lives, such as healthcare, education, alleviation of poverty and the environment, among many others. With mission and passion as their strengths, the more than 170,000 charitable and not-for-profit organizations in Canada employ almost one in ten people and contribute significantly to our economic and social well-being. Canada's not-for-profit organizations are typically small in scale and are heavily reliant on their limited staff resources and committed volunteers. In this environment, there are significant risks to success and continuity.
